'I love Polaroid because it is so honest - what you see is what you get', Rankin
Cementing my homesickness for the beautiful Scottish Highlands, when I came across these breathtaking Polaroids by fashion and portrait photographer, Rankin. Commissioned in 2008 by The Macallan single-malt Scotch whisky, Rankin shot 1000 Polaroid images for the bottle series as part of the company's Masters of Photography Collection. The images depict a range of different locations around The Macallan's grounds including Easter Elchies House estate, the accompanying distillery and the dedicated craftspeople. Tuuli, Rankin's long term muse and wife appears as the central subject in most of the photographs. Each of the snapshots were assigned to a limited edition 30 year old bottle of Macallan's Fine Oak, presented in a black leather box, lined with velvet and containing an unique original Rankin Polaroid. The project was a huge success and The Macallan were the first Scotch whisky brand ever to release 1000 limited editions of art. A lavish book, A Photographic Essay of The Macallan Estate was published and features all 1000 Rankin Polaroids and can still be purchased through The Macallan website.
