Maripol is an artist, film producer, Polaroid artist photographer, fashion designer and stylist. She currently works and lives in New York.

Documenting the remarkable time and place of the early 80's art, music and fashion scenes in downtown New York. Maripol captured the beautiful, inspiring and stylish with her vivid Polaroids. Her work as an image maker and stylist has influenced the world of art and fashion since the early 1980's. The above Polaroid of Madonna was taken by Maripol during her Like a Virgin days and you can find other snapshots of influential artists such as Grace Jones, Debbie Harry and Keith Haring in the book Maripolarama.

During the early 80s in the unique New York's downtown scene, you would find the multi-talented Polaroid artist Maripol snapping away with her Polaroid SX-70. Documenting through her lens the wild nights out featuring the likes of Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Fab Five Freddy, Debbie Harry, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Madonna.
 
It was in the mid-80s when Maripol played a huge influential part in designing and styling of Madonna's unforgettable material girl look. Maripol's trademark rubber bangles, cross related jewellery and fashion tops were all as iconic as Madonna herself. And the wannabe phenomenon was then born and catapulted Madonna into the limelight.


Maripol's recent publication Maripol: Little Red Riding Hood features a selection of her iconic Polaroids of Madonna. As well as exploring the creativity behind her during the Madonna and Like a Virgin days.

In 1976, Maripol’s boyfriend, photographer Edo, changed her life by giving her a Polaroid camera…and the rest is history history documented in that signature, washed out, romantic, nostalgic style that is unfailingly evoked by the Poloroid picture.

Alda von Stauffenberg and Elio Fiorucci curated this collection of Maripol’s famous pics for Sevenstar Gallery. Together the pieces of Maripolorama, bring to life the decadence and debauchery of New York’s grungy, unrestrained 80s.
