Super rare Japanese release of the Perspectives book, covering his Polaroids artwork from 1982 to 1984. This book (only 500 printed!), as well as the regular UK release, contain colour prints of his polaroid collages, featuring many famous persons as subject of those collages like Steve Jansen, Holger Czukay, Yuka Fujii and Angus McBean. Compared to the UK edition, there are some additional polaroid compilations printed and a series of letters written by Sylvian to Sakamoto concerning the publication of the book, among other things (see one of the pictures with a sketch by Sylvian of a very Cocteauesque-looking Orpheus).
The physical structure of the book is like an old Buddhist prayer book, i.e. that it doesn't have a spine, it's like one great, long scroll has been folded up between two hard covers.
This morning, my face lit up at the exciting news of The Impossible Project exhibiting a unique series of Polaroids by the multi-talented musician & photographer, David Sylvian! The show entitled, Glowing Enigmas opens on April 20th, 2012 and was commissioned by Impossible Project Space Tokyo. David has worked briefly with Polaroids before in the form of rare 1984 publication, Perspectives - Polaroids 82-84. A beautiful collection of photographs based around Polaroid montages (A process mostly developed by British artist, David Hockney). David also exhibited his Polaroid montages at Hamiltons Gallery in London. Check out his website here.
